"The Grouchy Architect"

I help architects work fewer hours, and have fewer errors and omissions. My services MIGHT save you some money. My services will PROBABLY save you some embarrassment. My services will CERTAINLY save you some time.

I am Christian Nielsen-Palacios, a semi-retired architect, still licensed in NY, although I no longer practice "traditional" architecture.I now offer assistance to other architects, mainly by reviewing their drawings in order to detect possible errors and omissions, and by writing their specs.”

About me:

I am one of you: A licensed architect!
I understand your struggles!
I am old(ish), experienced and semi-retired.
I can help you.

About you:

YOU are busy and stressed.YOU work 50 hours per week (or more.)YOU feel like you must do everything yourself.YOU don't want to (or can't) hire more staff.

Quality Control:

Quality Assurance (QA) is the promise you make your clients about the quality of your Contract Documents.Quality Control (QC), on the other hand, is about the procedures you follow to fulfill that promise. We are usually not the best at detecting our own errors and omissions, which is why strongly believe in the following quote by Charles Nelson in his book Managing Quality in Architecture:

“The person most likely to miss an error or omission is the person who made the error or "created" the omission. Conversely, the less a person knows about a project, the more likely it is that they will question things that don't seem quite right or quite complete.”

Let me be that second (or third) person!

Specs

Many architects, perhaps even more among those specializing in residential projects, think they don't need specs, since they put "everything" on the drawings, and because "contractors don't read them, anyway."That could be a costly approach. There's the old adage that "you see the drawings in the Plan Room, and the specs in the Court Room."Having specs, at whatever level of detail is appropriate for your projects, is a way to improve the chances that the quality of the finished product will be what you and your client expected.Whether you prefer "sheet specs," to be included as part of the drawings set, or a full, overwhelming set of 3-Part CSI formatted "spec book," or something in between, I can help you.
